Obasanjo Faces Investigation 24 Hours After Jonathan’s Reply

Barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan’s reply to an earlier letter written to him by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, the nation’s security agencies have concluded arrangements to “interview” the former leader, for him to “explain details” of some of the allegations he made in the letter.

LEADERSHIP gathered that but for the absence of the former leader from the country, an inter-departmental team of the nation’s security apparatus was on the verge of visiting Obasanjo in Abeokuta or at his farm in Otta, Ogun State on the mission, which a source called “routine”.

It was also gathered that even though President Jonathan had in his response to the former president’s letter given indications that relevant security agencies would probe some of the allegations in the December 2, 2013 letter sent to him, the move to investigate had indeed been concluded before the president’s letter that was released to the press Sunday night.

According to the source, the inter-departmental security team has in it representatives of the Department of State Service (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Police.

Regardless of the arrangement, the source said it was not meant to be an invitation, as such could be misinterpreted as government’s moving against those with dissenting voices.

“The best the security agencies can do under this circumstance is to interview the former president for us to be given the opportunity to know from him what the nation’s security community did not know before now.

“You ought to know that security apparatus does not work like politicians; anywhere and whenever politicians have problems, security agencies tend to steer clear, because they know how they settle their differences.

“But in this case, certain issues have been unravelled in form of allegations in the said letter, which in the thinking of those in the best position, requires that further information be sought from the former president.

“But the only thing is that he has to be given first charge respect as a former president of the country; it is either the team visits him in Abeokuta or in his Otta farm or anywhere he deems necessary, in order for him to explain details to the team,” he said.

He further said, “This is very important and needs not to be politicised, because some of the issues border on the nation’s security and security of individuals who are players in the polity.”

Obasanjo, had in his letter sent to President Jonathan, alleged that he was training a killer squad to watch over 1,000 perceived political opponents.

Part of the letter had read: “Allegation of keeping over 1000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government and the people of Nigeria.

“Here again, there is the lesson of history to learn from for anybody who cares to learn from history. Mr. President would always remember that he was elected to maintain security for all Nigerians and protect them.

“And no one should prepare to kill or maim Nigerians for personal or political ambition or interest of anyone.

The Yoruba adage says, ‘The man with whose head coconut is broken may not live to savour the taste of the succulent fruit.’ Those who advise you to go hard on those who oppose you are your worst enemies.

Democratic politics admits and is permissive of supporters and opponents. When the consequences come, those who have wrongly advised you will not be there to help carry the can. Egypt must teach some lesson.”

When contacted the special adviser to the president on political matters, Ahmed Gulak said, “Whether or not the security agencies have set up a team to either have audience with the former president or not remains within the purview of the security agencies.

Only the office of the NSA or any other relevant security official can answer that question because it is not a political matter but a security one.

“Besides, you have read the president’s reply; he made it clear that the security agencies will probe; so take it like that.”

SSS keeps mum
When LEADERSHIP contacted the spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar, through calls and text messages, there was no reply as at press time.

The text message reads: “Good evening Ma, kindly confirm the information that the SSS is to quiz former President Olusegun Obasanjo in connection with his letter to President Jonathan. We need the confirmation for a balanced report. Prompt reply will be appreciated, Ma. Thank you.”

Federal Government Agency Buys 10 Bullet Proof Cars

A Saudi Arabian cargo plane that crashed into equipment at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on December 4. The Saudi embassy says the jet was carrying bulletproof cars for the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

...Flown in by Saudi plane involved in Abuja mishap – Embassy

A Federal Government agency has bought 10 bulletproof cars, at least five of which were flown into the country by a Saudi plane that was involved in the Abuja airport mishap three weeks ago.

The Saudi embassy in Abuja, which disclosed this to Daily Trust in a letter at the weekend, said the cars were meant to be delivered to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna.

A Saudi airlines plane hit runway repair equipment at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the night on December 4, leading to the closure of the airport for 17 hours.

In its account of that incident, Daily Trust reported that the aircraft was carrying weapons. But the Saudi embassy wrote to say the goods were not “dangerous nor prohibited,” contrary to the impression it said the newspaper’s report created.

The embassy said the cargo comprised 100 tonnes of bulletproof cars which were part of a supply contract for delivery to DICON in Kaduna.

“The General Authority of Civil Aviation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has confirmed that the aircraft was chartered by Saudi Arabian Airline, carrying bullet-proof cars and its final destination is Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos, Nigeria,” the Saudi mission said in a letter dated December 20.

“The detailed description of the content of the plane is as follows: -A set of bullet-proof cars weighing 58 tonnes. (And) another set of 5 bullet-proof cars weighing 42 tonnes.

“The goods were a portion of a supply contract for 10 bullet-proof cars to a government agency in Nigeria, which were to be conveyed from Sharjah (UAE) via Abuja, through: fast forward cargo US UAC, to: Defence Industries of Nigeria (DICOM), 45, Ahmad Bello Way, Kaduna, through the companies contact person: Mr Nwajpudu Livinston/CCC. (sic).

“The goods were manufactured in South Africa.

“It is important to note that, the goods the aircraft was carrying were neither those considered as dangerous nor prohibited, this is absolutely in contrary to your esteemed newspapers report which stated that the aircraft was carrying weapons.”

This supply came in the wake of the N255 million bulletproof cars scandal involving Aviation Minister Stella Oduah, who the House of Representatives indicted for flouting procurement regulations in the cars purchase.

It is not clear who would use the 10 bulletproof cars being supplied by the Saudis.

When contacted on Sunday, a spokesman for DICON, Mohammed Lawal Kurfi said he was not aware of the contract and the cargo.

Asked if he could confirm the matter with company’s management, Kurfi said he could not contact the Director General, Major-General E.R. Chioba.

For his part, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said if DICON was the one mentioned by the Saudis, then Daily Trust should talk to the corporation.

DICON was established in 1964, primarily to produce small arms and ammunition for the use of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. The corporation is also to use its excess capacity to produce machinery spare parts for industries and other products for civilian use, information on its website says.

A source in the military circles told Daily Trust yesterday that India and Brazil set up similar corporations same year and had since gone ahead to exceed their mandate.

“But DICON has not only stagnated; its main preoccupation now is making furniture,” he said.

“It has no business with bulletproof cars. Purchases of heavy weapons and things like bulletproof cars are the responsibilities of Policy and Plans in Defence Headquarters. The whole thing is curious.”

Details of DICON’s N2.59 billion total allocation in the 2013 Federal budget did not clearly show a provision for purchase of any bulletproof cars.
But N497 million was provided for “purchase of defence equipment” under capital projects.

Woman Loses Pregnancy After Alleged Kick From Lebanese Boss

Woman loses pregnancy after alleged kick from boss

A 34-year-old woman, Mrs. Alexandra Ossai, has accused her Lebanese boss, Kaveh Noine, of causing her to lose her seven-month-pregnancy after he kicked her in the stomach.

Ossai, who until December 13, 2013, was a supervisor with a Lebanese owned firm, Toppan Printing Company, alleged that Noine assaulted her many times during her eight months stay at the company.

Currently at a private hospital in the Fagba area of Lagos State, Ossai told PUNCH Metro that she had undergone emergency surgery four days after the kick to save her life as her placenta was said to have been damaged.

She said, “I started working at Toppan in April. I earn N17,000 salary and work from Monday to Saturday. Anytime Noine was annoyed, he would beat the person he was angry with. Sometimes, he would throw whatever he can lay his hands on at the person. Prior to that incident, Noine had slapped me many times.

“Noine had said he would hold me responsible for the shortcomings of the people I supervised. As a result, I often assisted my subordinates in their duties to make sure that Noine had nothing to complain about.”

Ossai said on December 12 2013, Noine had flown into a rage when he noticed something on the floor in her section.

“It was a container for a drug. That is what we do; we produce packets for drugs and perfumes. So when Noine saw one of such packets on the floor, he was so angry that he gave me a blow to the chest,” she recalled.

She said Noine subsequently went into his office and typed a termination letter for Ossai, which she refused to sign. Her refusal allegedly enraged him further and after verbally abusing her, he was said to have told her that it was her last warning.

The following day, Ossai ran into Noine while coming from his secretary’s office. Noine allegedly dragged Ossai back to the office and called her a wicked woman.

Ossai said, “He said I looked like a mad person. After abusing me, he hit me on my neck twice. Then, without warning, he kicked my stomach with his knee. Some co-workers were there but they did not intervene. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.”

The mother of one, whose younger brother and sister also worked in the same company, said she prevailed on her siblings not to attack Noine when they heard the news.

“I never for once told my husband what I was going through at work. I didn’t want him to come and fight Noine. I pleaded with my siblings not to fight,” Ossai said.

Although the pains eventually subsided after two days, it was learnt that in the early hours of Monday, Decemebr 16, 2013, Ossai began to bleed. She was rushed to a private clinic at Fagba. She was told that her placenta had been damaged as a result of the kick and that she had to undergo emergency surgery to save her life.

She said, “I didn’t know that my baby had died until two days after the surgery. I was told my baby lost his face too due to the kick.”

She said a report was made at the Area F police command the following day by her aunt, Mrs. Olabisi Jaiyeoba.

Jaiyeoba said, “When Ossai’s husband and I were refused entry into the company, we went to report to the police. They accompanied us there and even had to force their way in. The administrative manager lied that Noine had travelled out of the country. But as of that Tuesday, he was still in the country. It was later that we learned that he travelled last Friday.”

Efforts to get a response from the Deputy Manager of Toppan printing Company, Mr. Abass Al-Souki, proved abortive as his phone number indicated that it was unreachable.

However, the admin manager, who declined to identify herself, told PUNCH Metro that the factory was closed for the Christmas holidays.

She said, “We closed for the holidays last Friday and would reopen on January 8 2013. I would not like to speak on that matter because it is already with the police. Also our company lawyer is on it. You can only get across to our management in January 2014.”

Legal counsel for Toppan, Mrs. Nnebe, said that she could not comment on the matter.

She said, “It would be best if you wait for the police to conclude their investigation. Ossai has only made an allegation. Let the police finish their investigation and then we would give our response.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide, said, “The incident which occurred on Thursday was not reported to the police until Tuesday. It took about five days before it was reported. So when the police arrived at the suspect’s workplace, they were informed that he had travelled. It took a long time for the complainant to report the matter. But we are investigating.”

Male Body Language Flirting Signs To Watch Out For In This Xmas

Body language, especially when flirting, is something that many of us have a problem reading. There are body language flirting signs guys unconsciously give that you should look out for. Have you ever been flirting with a man and think that he’s into you, only to figure out he is actually not? Well, I have got some of the best ways to read male body language when flirting, which will help you to know whether that nice guy is really into you or not. Now, take a look at the list of the top 10 male body language movements you should watch out for!
Male Body Language Flirting Signs to Watch Out For
1. Eye Contact

Eye Contact

One of the fastest ways to tell if a guy is interested in you is to pay attention to how long he holds an eye contact. If a guy holds an eye contact for a bit longer than the average person, then it is certainly a sign he likes you and really likes what he is looking at! After all, you make an eye contact when you are flirting, don’t you? It is exactly the same for men! That’s why the next time you see a man trying to catch your gaze, make sure you flirt right back! But, don’t forget about shy guys. A shy guy may hold a short eye contact, not because he thinks you are not beautiful, but because he thinks that you are so wonderful that he starts feeling awkward just looking at you

2. Smiling

A nice smile is always a great sign and it’s another male body language movement to watch out for! If the guy is smiling at you, there is a great chance that he considers you to be beautiful and perhaps he wants to approach you. If you are interested in this guy, then show him your courage and confidence and try to approach him first. There is nothing wrong in approaching a cute guy first, why not? Forget about all those stereotypes. Smile at him, he will certainly love your amazing smile!

3. Fleeting glimpses

Have you ever caught a man looking at you or even stealing glances whenever both of you were in the same room? If so, you know that this is one of the most obvious male body language signs to watch out for! Unfortunately, most girls ignore teasing glimpses and think that this means nothing, but sometimes it means everything. Who knows, maybe that guy is your future husband. After all, love is all about the little things. Often we don’t notice those things we should actually notice.

4. Closeness

If you always find the guy all up in your business and if he is trying to be close to you, this is a sure sign he is interested in you. If the guy is not flirting, he will not want to be super close to you, don’t you think? So, girls, keep in mind this sign and if you are also interested in him, feel free to flirt right back.

5 . Head Tilts

Have you ever thought that the way a guy tilts his head can actually signify that he is interested in you? I’m pretty sure that you didn’t know about that. If the guy tilts his head toward you, it’s a good sign that means he is listening attentively to you. Moreover, it means that he is attuned to what you’re talking about and he is trying to capture each word! That’s really a great feeling when the guy is listening to you, so make sure you appreciate it, even if you don’t like him

6. Coy hiding of eyes

Although eye contact is important and it’s a sigh the guy might like you, hiding the eyes is also a coy trick that lots of guys play when they’re flirting, especially shy guys. If the guy avoids eye contact, but you often catch him looking at you, this is one of the clear signs of flirtatious male body language that you should watch out for!

7. Dilated pupils

It’s a proven fact that the eyes can give us away when we actually do not want them to. There is a reason why most cuddly toys have the large round eyes and the reason is that when you are attracted to something or someone your pupils dilate, becoming larger, and when you don’t like something, your pupils contract. So if you notice that his eyes keep dilating, that’s certainly a sign that he adores you and likes everything that you say!

8. Mirroring technique

Have you ever mirrored every action that your crush did? Sometimes we mirror guy’s actions without actually realizing it. This can range from mirroring manner of speech and voice tones to mirroring blink rates. For example, he is laughing and you are also laughing. The point is that it is natural for people to mirror something they like. So if you notice that from your crush, it’s may be because he adores you! Nowadays most singles dating sites advise men to mirror woman’s body language, so your crush may do this a lot!

9. Fidgeting

When I like the guy or when I’m a bit nervous, I fidget. I’m sure I’m not alone and many girls do that too. In fact, there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just a sure sign that you really like what you see. Yes, you might be nervous, but it is not a bad nervous. It is all about expectation. You simply don’t know whether he likes you or not, so you expect him to tell it to you. So ladies, next time you see the guy fidgeting, it may be because he likes you and is just nervous to talk to you!

10. Playing footsie

If the guy is constantly playing footsie with you, that’s a huge sign that he likes you! A guy doesn’t just brush his foot against a girl just because he wants to.

Guys can tell you all you need to know with his body language. Now you have all 10 male body language flirting signs that you’ll need to watch out for! Well girls, what body language do you use when you are flirting?
6. Coy hiding of eyes

Foods That Benefits The Body, But Harm The Teeth.

Milk:
Nutritionists note that milk is a healthy source of calcium. Other top sources of this mineral are cheese, turnip greens, oranges, and broccoli; but milk not only has the most calcium, it’s also a great source of vitamin D, riboflavin, carotene, and retinol, among others. However, despite these numerous pluses, milk can wreak havoc on your teeth — that is if you take much milk while you are careless with oral hygiene! A dentist, Dr. Deola Olonilua, says the lactose (a form of sugar) in milk rots the teeth as much as frizzy drinks do. She warns that even though certain foods are healthy, the presence of certain elements or minerals in then can damage the teeth when the eater has prolonged exposure to such foods. She says, “Milk has a sugar in it called lactose. The lactose in milk can be especially dangerous for children if they have it just before bedtime. This is because the milk will still be on their teeth as they sleep, and the sugars are converted to acids by oral bacteria. The acids can coat the teeth and consequently eat away at the tooth enamel. That is one of the ways people develop cavities.” She advises that people should not hit the bed immediately after taking milk. Rather, she counsels,
“You should rinse your mouth thoroughly after taking milk, or better still, brush your teeth as the last thing before bed.

Lemon:
Though lemon drinks have detoxifying and other benefits, it can affect your teeth in many ways than one. Lemon contains citric acid, which, dentists say, causes enamel erosion and other dental problems. The online portal, 1800dentist.com, states, “Drinking lemon juice can put you at risk for tooth erosion, a condition where the thin, protective layer of enamel slowly wears away from your teeth. Lemon juice contains acid, which irritates gums and softens tooth enamel.” Experts warn that frequent consumption of products that contain acid will eventually destroy the enamel and expose underlying dentin, leaving your teeth vulnerable to sensitivity and tooth decay. “Enamel erosion is one of the most common causes of cavities and tooth loss. This is because when you feast on these fruits for a long period, it means you are constantly bathing your teeth in acid and sugar; this will not allow your saliva to wash it away and neutralise the acids,” Olonilua says. Other fruits in this category include orange, apple and grapefruit juice. The dentist says since these fruits also contain natural sugars, the best bet is to thoroughly rinse the mouth after taking them.

Dried fruits:
In these days of eating on-the-go, dried fruits come in handy, as you can munch them at any time
of the day. Plus, they are available all the year round, and you can stock up on them without any fear that they would rot. However, experts say though dried fruits have admirably long shelf life, their detrimental effects on the teeth are enormous. Olonilua says, “Dried fruits can be harmful to the teeth because of their concentrated sugar content and stickiness. When you eat dried fruits, parts of them can easily adhere to the teeth, while the sugar in them encourages bacteria to thrive in the mouth. This is very likely to erode tooth enamel.” Scientists contend that since dried fruits are packed
with non-soluble cellulose fibre, they can bind and trap sugars on and around the tooth, making it worse than sweets. They advise that after taking dried fruit, brush immediately; and if you have no access to brush, rinse your mouth thoroughly while running your tongue all over your teeth.

Red, white wine:
When taken in moderation, wine is said to benefit the heart immensely. But then, wines do wreck havoc on teeth also. Take the red wine, for instance, which, experts say, is a tasty mix of natural dyes, acids, and tannin. These three ingredients leave lasting effects
on teeth, as they can contribute to teeth stain. Researchers say saliva in our mouth helps to wash away food particles and protect against acidic foods. However, wine contains alcohol, and alcohol suppresses the production of saliva. When this happens frequently, it is harmful for teeth and it may lead to gum disease. In extreme cases, it may lead to oral cancer, experts warn. A group of New York University researchers warn that if taken in excess, the acidic composition of wines can dissolve the enamel, make teeth porous and easily stained. Another study published in the journal Nutrition Research states that different types of wine may have a more negative impact on your teeth than others. The study shows that white wine has an acid content that tends to increase the risk of dark dental stains if you also drink tea or similar beverages. The researchers tested the effects of multiple red and white wines on teeth, and found that wine erodes the enamel of teeth, while white wine has a worse impact than red wine. “Wine is highly acidic, and the acid leads to lower levels of minerals such as calcium and dental erosion. The white grape variety (riesling) was found to be the most acidic of the wines tested,” the study says. Well, unlike the advice with other foods, experts say it is not recommended to brush immediately after drinking wine. “The softened teeth can be eroded by vigorous hygiene, so you should rinse — and wait a bit — before scrubbing your teeth,” the experts advise. Olonilua says for this reason, it’s always a good idea to drink some water after drinking wine in order to rinse the acids from your mouth.

Ex-Senate President Writes Obasanjo, Blasts Ex-President Over Letter To Jonathan

A former senate president, Ameh Ebute, has launched a stinging attack on former President Olusegun Obasanjo for penning a fiercely critical letter accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of corruption, incompetence and clannishness.

Mr. Ebute, who led the senate in 1993, lambasted the former president as lacking the moral standing to criticize Mr. Jonathan, since he had failed on all indices of leadership in his 11 years as Nigeria’s military and civilian leader.

He called Mr. Obasanjo’s letter “ill-conceived” and ”an open assault on the seat of power in Nigeria”.

In an 18-page letter, Mr. Obasanjo had blamed President Jonathan for the crisis engulfing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and criticized his handling of the Boko Haram insurgency. He also accused Mr. Jonathan of condoning corruption, authorizing the training of snipers ahead of the 2015 elections, and running the nation’s economy aground.

On the PDP crisis, Mr. Ebute said Mr. Obasanjo remains the fold’s most divisive leader, whose penchant for flouting stipulated party rules, continues to haunt the ruling party.

He said while the former president accuses President Jonathan of insincerity about his ambition for a fresh term, and criticises the president for refusing to disclaim calls to stand for re-election in 2015, Mr. Obasanjo did far worse in 2002 while he sought re-election, and in 2007 while making an unconstitutional bid for a third term.

“As Chief Obasanjo bestrode the PDP like an intimidating colossus, electoral decency was jettisoned, internal democracy trampled upon and good conscience buried as he dealt ruthlessly with all perceived enemies regardless of democratic culture and ethos,” he said.

On corruption, Mr. Ebute said the former president ran one of the most sleaze-filled administrations in Nigeria’s history.

He accused Mr. Obasanjo of mismanaging the nation’s oil and gas revenues in his eight-year term as president during which he personally supervised the petroleum ministry, while his “kinsman and protégé”, Funsho Kukpolokun, held sway at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

“Nigeria’s oil and gas revenue was helplessly at the discretion of the duo. Where was accountability and transparency?” he queried.

“While Nigerians accuse the regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida of institutionalizing corruption, it is common knowledge that Chief Obasanjo planted the seed of corruption and elevated it to unimaginable heights,” the former lawmaker said.

“When a sitting President influences major business tycoons who do business with government to launch and build a multi-million naira library in his village in his name, what does that amount to? When a sitting President, Chief Obasanjo, suddenly becomes a shareholder in Trans National Corporation of Nigeria Plc, a diversified conglomerate, owners of Transcorp Hilton and several oil and gas assets, what does that amount to?” he questioned.

On Boko Haram, Mr. Ebute said the former president failed miserably in his handling of the Niger Delta insurgency to earn the right to criticize Mr. Jonathan’s effort at containing the Islamist sect.

“It is pathetic that Chief Obasanjo’s sense of history could be so easily demented….Even when the activities of militants brought the economy to knee-jam and oil production plummeted from 2.5 million barrels a day to 700,000 barrels a day, his barking bull strategies brought no solution to the crisis,” Mr. Ebute said.

He said the Obasanjo era was replete with tales of human rights violation, targeted killings and unresolved political assassinations- occurrences that are absent under Mr. Jonathan.

Mr. Ebute said the greatest discredit to Mr. Obasanjo’s hyped credential of a detribalized leader was his suggestion that Nigerians, incensed by Mr. Jonathan’s failures, may regard his presidency as the last president from a minority ethnic stock.

“It is unfortunate that Chief Obasanjo could degenerate to fan the embers of ethnicity in such an insidious and reckless manner,” he said. “But we must remind Chief Obasanjo that Nigeria is not an enterprise of an oligarchy and that the days of hegemonic rule are gone. Chief Obasanjo should extricate himself from the garb of narrow mindedness and pettiness and be broad in his perceptive values. Nigeria belongs to all, majorities and minorities alike.”

Mr. Ebute’s angry reaction came as Nigerians continue to debate Mr. Obasanjo’s letter. President Jonathan has yet to fully respond the several allegations raised by the former president.

North Are Ready To Go; "They Are Tired Of Being Called Parasites

We the north of Nigeria are ready for a separation process
which will either involve regionalism or total disintegration.

On the topic, Sagir Aliyu said: Yes, I'm in support of BREAK
UP. Because most Nigerian minds are full of hatred,
sentiments, ethnicity, religious differences and tribalism. Some
are calling for revolution, but instead of loosing lives and
property; let the romance end. Also if the 2015 election will result
to loss of lives and property, the romance should end before then,
Please!

Idris Musa also commented on the subject: Break up is long
overdue. Why can some have freedom to perform their religious
rites while some are deprived? I can't remain at home on Fridays
like Christians do Sundays, Marital dossiers is only emphasized for
only one wife & four children. Economically, we are considered
parasites because they refused to revamp agriculture. They
refused to explore oil deposits in more than five places in my
region. Let us break so that we have fresh air.

Musa Maiunguwa: I beg it's long overdue! Let's break up anyhow
regardless of the consequences. I want to be governed by ISLAMIC
LAW not this Infidel system of government. I hate to be governed
by DRUNKARDS.
These comments were the prevalent type of response from
Northerners on facebook to my earlier article on the subject,
"Nigeria: Do We Need To Break This Up?"
A majority of northern masses are now making this call as
situations keep deteriorating in the nation and undeserved ethnic
insults and ethnic torment has become the order of the day from
certain quarters in Nigeria. Additionally, it appears that Nigeria as
formatted and the perceived disenfranchisement of certain
aspects of the South, justify and subject us and Nigeria as a whole
to a most terrible regime that is unable to secure life in the north
and yield for us the social, economic and developmental dividends
of democracy; as poverty reigns at its highest level in the north
which is unfairly economically disadvantaged.

Today, Nigeria has 100 million poor, however there is an uneven
distribution of the poverty with the South doing more favorably,
whereas the north suffers the most with its level of poor as high as
80% living under a dollar a day in many states, this compares to
the south that has levels from 20-50%. This level of poverty in the
north exceeds the level in neighboring Mali, Chad and Niger, all
sharing the northern ecological and cultural demographics.
Trading blame as to who and what military and civilian dictatorial
and usurpist regime caused this high level of poverty is puerile,
meaningless and disingenuous; and it contributes nothing towards
addressing the real and present epic crisis. Also, asserting that
because northern dictators have ruled the nation for 60% of its
independent life over 40% Southern rule is meaningless and does
not solve the deadly poverty situation.
The ordinary masses are suffering. We gain absolutely nothing
from Nigeria's oil, apart from what we buy of it at the pumps at a
price above the global mean, and rather we suffer from oppression
and terror as a consequence of, and thanks to bloody oil money.
Only the cabal enjoy from the current state of Nigeria. Let it be
known that the voices of many so-called northern leaders, which
are obviously the loudest, do not represent the sentiments of us
suffering masses, wrecked with poverty and lack of opportunity.
These 'northern elders' are part of a national cabal that exploits
and extorts the nation. These cabal obviously have no honest
interest in our region as can clearly be seen by their lack of
investment in the north, building all their factories in the South.
We the real people of the north are eager for autonomy of our
region. This is our position.
The landlocked north is clearly disadvantaged. None of the
regimes provided the transportation networks to link the north to
Nigeria's ports as would have been the basic and smallest
requirement to re-establish a northern economy.
Our agriculture industry has been left to decay. Our textile
industry has been completely abandoned, as we suffer from the
'curse' of oil and the illusion of Nigeria's wealth from a mono-
economy, which has satisfied and favored only a set of greedy
cabal without regional distinction, north, east, west or south. We
see regionalism with the plan of possible disintegration as an
urgent next best step towards a northern cultural and economic
awakening.
Many of us across Nigeria now agree that military dictator; Aguiyi
Ironsi made an error on 24 May 1966, when he released Decree No.
34 which dissolved the regions.

Excerpt: "The provisions of the Decree are intended to remove the
last vestiges of the intense regionalism of the recent past, and to
produce that cohesion in the governmental structure which is so
necessary in achieving, and maintaining the paramount objective
of the National Military government, and indeed of every true
Nigerian, namely, national unity. The highlights of this Decree are
as follows: The former regions are abolished, and Nigeria grouped
into a number of territorial areas called provinces. . . . Nigeria
ceases to be what has been described as a federation. It now
becomes simply the Republic of Nigeria."
We hope Nigerians in South territories share our sentiments and will be happy to peacefully and respectfully discuss modalities of separation into economically independent regions which will test and pave a path for emotional, marital, economical, military and other national related changes and challenges necessary for possible separation in the future.

The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, has again warned members of the church against celebrating Christmas, saying the annual celebration of Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural.

Kumuyi warned that partaking in the celebration made Christians to go back from the commandment of Jesus Christ.

The cleric said this on Saturday at the annual national December convention of the church, which held at the church’s camp ground in Ogun State.

He said, “We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.

“When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in the church either.  If you don’t know that before, now you know.”

He warned that any of the church’s leaders that tried to introduce the “idolatry of Christmas” into any section of the church would be sanctioned, while also encouraging other believers in Christ to jettison the celebration as part of their sacrifice to perfection.

Kumuyi said the duty of the church was to make people more like Jesus Christ and not join in worldly celebrations.

“We are not trying to make the church turn like the world. We want it to be like Jesus Christ, and more like the Apostles. If you don’t have that mind with us, then you have permission to go to other places,” he added.

But the Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, in his reaction to Kumuyi’s proclamation, said, “I don’t know what he means by saying the practice of celebrating Christmas is wrong.

“Is he saying that Christ wasn’t born? That he didn’t come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday? Do Kumuyi’s pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ.

“The celebration of Christmas didn’t just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don’t know what it is about. “If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God’s promise.”

“I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement.”

The spokesperson for the Christian Association of Nigeria, Oshodi chapter, Lagos State, Pastor Barnabas Otoibhi, said that Christmas was worth celebrating.

Otoibhi told one our correspondents in a telephone interview that the origin of Christmas was not as important as its essence.

He said, “The origin of Christmas, as we know it, could be traced to Roman Emperor, Constantine. Christmas was a day for celebrating the Sun God. However, because Constantine was a Christian, the day was changed to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

“The tradition has continued to date and since the aim of Christmas is to celebrate Jesus since there is nothing bad in honouring Jesus. Also, the worship of the Sun God was done in Rome and not everywhere in the world, so it is not part of our history.

“We mark Christmas with the singing of songs as a day, which has now been consecrated.”

State That GEJ Will Win In 2015

1)Anambra GEJ can win more then 90%
2)Enugu GEJ can win more then 90%
3)Akwa Ibom can win more then 90%
4)Abia can win more then 90%
5)Adamawa GEJ can win the required 25% (if Bala Ngalari, BINDAWA MUHAMMED JIBRILLA, grace bent boni haruna etc all stay with PDP, because just saying he is Christian vote for him might not be enough )
6)Abia can win more then 90%
7)Bauchi GEJ can win a reasonable number of vote like 5-10% ( if Yuguda, Ningi, Bala and Guma, come to together to campaign for him forgetting about the governorship election in the state and also HON. DOGARA YAKUBU the representative of Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa i.e. the places with reasonable number of Christians in the state have something to shows the people to vote for PDP apart for religion)
coolBayelsa can win more then 90%
9)Benue GEJ can win 80% ( because APC has like 3 rep and 1 senator )
10)Borno GEJ can win like 10%( because SEN. AHMED KHALIFA ZANNA is staying with PDP, and also HON. GUJBAWU KAKA KYARI rep from maiduguri the state capital is staying with PDP so if he can bring in like 10% of his total Constituency vote he will help GEJ a lot)
11)Cross River can win more then 90%
12)Delta GEJ can win more then 90%
13)Ebonyi GEJ can win more then 90%
14)Edo GEJ can win like 60%( GEJ don't have any good structure in the state as compare to other niger/deltan state because PDP have like 2.5 rep (including one of labour party) and 2 senators and both Oserheimen Osunbor and Lucky Igbinedion (ex-convict) are not that high weight that can win EDO with a landslide )
15)Ekiti GEJ might not win the the require 25% ( because Navy Capt. Caleb Olubaolade and Olusegun Oni can't not delivered )
16) Gombe GEJ can win more then 30% ( if Goje stay with PDP, so him and Idris Umar (minister) , and the governor Dankwambo the 3 senators combined i think can deliver more then the required 25%)
17) Imo Gej can win 70%( rochas can easily bring like 15% to 20% vote to his new party, because i think imolite dislike Ikedi Ohakim more then rochas, because rochas is not that bad, his mojor sin, why he don't stay with a regional party, i don't think CHUKWUEMEKA NKEM IHEDIOHA or Viola Onwuliri can win IMO with landslide for GEJ, and if Rochas can convince 3 rep and one senator to follow him i think he can convince 15-20% to vote for his party)
18 Jigawa GEJ can win like 5% ( because the only person loyal to him is Nuruddeen Mohammed and his is the lowest ranking minister in the country )
19 Kaduna GEJ can win 30% ( mostly from the southern Kaduna, the current criss between the muslim and Christian in the state will help GEJ a lot, because the zango kataf, gong and made although they don't like GEJ they hate the hausa currently more then him because NENADI ESTHER USMAN and Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga Audu can delivery more the 70% of southern kaduna vote or Mukhtar Yero and Sambo can actually deliver more then 10% of north kaduna vote)
20) kano GEJ can win 10% ( if the igbo decide to stay in kano during the election, and also few people that hate the government for changing party and join same party with Shekarau)
21) Katsina GEJ will win reasonable number of vote but i don't think he will have the require 25% ( because both the Mohammed Musa Saada (minister and the Shema are not really like by the state)
22)Kebbi GEJ win reasonable number of vote but i don't think he will have the require 25% (Alhaji Tanimu Turak and the governor Saidu Usman Nasamu might not give him the required vote )
23) Kogi 40% ( reason is because the governor and Mohammed B. Adoka are almost useless, and the christain in the state don't hate the muslim that much for PDP to use the hate in the election )
24)kwara GEJ might have the required vote that is 25% ( if saraki decide to stay in PDP and work with Bolaji Abdullah to help GEJ election )
25)Lagos GEJ can have the required 15% ( if the igbos stay because i don't think Olusegun Aganga or bode george can convince lagosian to vote for GEJ this time )
26)Nasarawa a tough one, GEJ has the chance of having the required 25% ( if ABDULAHI ADAMU and Labaran maku work together even with that is not 100% because the only christian senator is member of APC while and the 2 christian rep are also APC member and is the same in 2007 to 2011 the only christian senator is member of ANPP now APC so if PDP used religion to win majority of Christian vote in Kogi it might not work in nassarwa, because APC is giving the christian more chance then PDP and also the Pagans are not happy with GEJ for declare a war with them )
27)Niger GEJ will not win the required 25% ( reason he is not in goods term with the state governor and with no minister from the state currently and the former governor Abdulkadir Kure (PDP) is hiding somewhere, maybe if he appoint ZAYNAB ABDULKADIR KURE as the new minister, her husband the former governor might help him to have reasonable number of votes
28)Oyo, Osun, Ogun GEJ has little chance of having the required 25% vote (Akinwunmi Ayo Adesina,Ms. Olajumoke Akinjide, Erelu Olushola Obada, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubaolade can't deliver the 25% require )
31)Plateau GEJ can easily have like 60% ( reason because beromization of plateau is good for Jang, is very bad because it make easy for PDP the required vote for Governor berom account for like 50-60%, but APC too can easily can the required 25% vote from other tribe who feel felt out in the beromization like the Mupun, Mwaghavul, Ngas and the hausa/ fulani/ kanuri in wase/Jos North/Bassa local government )
32)Rivers State GEJ can win 80% (Amaechi is among the best performing governor in nigerian and GEJ fighting him in all front might help APC win reasonable number of vote, but it might be hard for them to have the require 25%)
33)Taraba another tough one ( but GEJ can win where btw 30-40% )
34)sokoto GEJ can win 10% ( the deputy governor and Yusuf Suleiman can help delivery that)
35)yobe GEJ can win like 5% ( without, senator, only one rep , book haram criss it will even nice if Yerima Lawan Ngama (minister) can bring the 5%)
36)zamfara GEJ can win like 5% easily ( SEN. SAHABI ALHAJI YAU and minister Ambassador Bashir Yuguda can help deliver that )

This Is New Nigeria After National Confab In 2014

President Goodluck Jonathan will eventually be the leader Nigerians will come to respect with the proposed national conference, which the Yoruba Afenifere believes is much more important to the region than the hoopla over succession in 2015 general election. They told GEJ in the villa last week that "history will judge him fairly if you will address this structural quagmire we are in."

Nairalanders from my tour of the SS, SE and SW, this eventually will be the outcome:

1) That the six zones be recognised as autonomous and federating units

2)The President shall serve one term six years tenure on rotational basis of the six geo-political zones

3)That the vice President be nominated from another zone and in the event of the demise of the President, his zone of origin will replace him not the vice

4) That the office of President be largely weak with four or five exclusive items: defence, currency, foreign affairs and National orientation/civic operations.

5) That each zone retains 50 percent earnings from its natural resources, IGR etc and contribute 20 percent to a weaker centre while 30 percent is for the general pool to be redistributed equally

6) That the parliament shall not be bicameral but cabinet system.

7) That the judiciary be decentralised with each zone having its High, Appeal and Supreme Courts

cool That each zone should maintain consular relations with external states and agencies

9)That the Police be decentralize with each zone maintaining its Police according to their crime and security peculiarities

10) That each zone shall have a gov-general who will overseer existing states, now collapsed as administrative provinces

11) That each zone pursue policies, economic, infrastructural policies etc that will best serve its best priorities and develop its people within their own pace and capabilities.

These and many more will be the crux of the new national architecture that will indeed bury the drummings and group positionings for 2015 elections.

The major clog may be the National Assembly not endorsing a referendum or attempting to tamper with the outcome. Then certain disadvantage sections seeking a change such as the Yoruba, Igbo, minorities, ethnic based organisations, civil society and many national reformists may react kick seriously.

GEJ the builder is sent at this point in time for this onerous task. Let's pray he gets it right and it does not go out of control and purpose.

PDP Will Become Stronger, Says Orji Uzor Kalu

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, , on Monday said he was not afraid of any consequence of defection of five governors and 37 Representatives from People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressive Party (APC).

Kalu made the remark at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, before travelling to Dubai.

“We are rebranding the PDP now and we will come out stronger after it’’, he said

He also said Nigeria would not disintegrate either now or in the near future stressing that the nation would continue to wax stronger.

“We need the country more than the country needs us. The unity of this country cannot be compromised. We are going to be the trustees of the unity of the country.’’

Kalu said that the Igbo ethnic group is not interested in the disintegration of the country in spite of being a large group.
“There are Igbos in Sokoto and every part of the country. So, we are the salt of the nation and ready for the unity and a more prosperous nation’’, the former governor said. (NAN)

APC Will Rule Nigeria In 2015- Buhari

Former Head of State, Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari has
expressed optimism that
All Progressives Congress (APC)
would win the 2015 general
elections.
He added that the party would rule
Nigeria no matter the opposition
from
other political parties.
Buhari a chieftain of the party,

Don’t Turn Nigeria To Syria –senator Uzodinma

Chairman, Senate Committee on
Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodinma,
has warned Nigerians against
making unguarded statements
capable of derailing the nation’s
democracy and precipitating
ethnic backlash that could turn the
country into another Syria.
Speaking at the weekend,
Uzodinma, who represents Imo
West Senatorial District in th
Senate, regretted that highly
placed Nigerians have lately
resorted to making provocative
statements against the leadership
of the country aimed at inciting
the public against the government.
He reminded those behind what
he described as “explosive, wild
and baseless allegations” to be
mindful of the fact that such
ungodly utterances could
precipitate an ethnic backlash that
can create another Syria in the
country.
According to him, the impression
many are beginning to have is
that there are a set of
ethnocentric leaders in the
country who are yet to come to
terms with the fact of a minority
presidency in the country and the
prospect of another four years of
minority presidency.
The senator said such ethnic
bigots have become so obsessed
with their disdain for a president
from a minority ethnic extraction
that they have lost all civility and
decorum.
“I suspect that these people are
simply obsessed that a minority is
President of Nigeria and are also
paranoid about the prospect of
another four years of a minority
Presidency. It appears that this
obsession has made them lose
calm and maturity so much so that
they have become like a loose
canon mindlessly churning out
warped logic and baseless
allegations against the
government,” he declared.
Uzodinma said it was interesting
to observe that even those who
were released from prison and
made president with a promise to
do only one term but ended up
doing two terms and wanting a
third, are now in the forefront of
trying to stop President Goodluck
Jonathan from doing a second term.

Amaechi Gives Condition To Return To PDP

The Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has given President Goodluck Jonathan one condition to return to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Amaechi said he was ready to go back to the PDP if Jonathan would return Rivers oil wells ceded to neighbouring Bayelsa State.

The governor, who spoke on Monday during a rally organised by the All Progressives Congress at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, said despite the 2.1 million votes Jonathan received in the state in 2011, the Federal Government had not executed any project in Rivers.

He dismissed claims that the ceding of Rivers oil wells in Soku to Bayelsa State was done during the tenure of former Governor Rufus Ada George.
Amaechi said, “We gave the President nearly 2.1 million votes. Let him tell us one project he has done for us. I have challenged the President that I belong to APC. If he wants me back in PDP, let him return the oil wells to the Kalabari people and I will come back.

“But the President cannot. Instead, he will take more. One of our sons, a Kalabari son, said the oil wells were taken under Rufus Ada-George. Tell him I say he is lying. He never served in any government. I served under Ada-George government and there was no oil well taken from Rivers State then.

“I served under Dr. Peter Odili. The oil well was taken in 2006. They put the money in an escrow account and by 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, they took all the money and gave to our brothers and they converted Soku to Bayelsa.”

Amaechi: I Am Number One On Jonathan’s Hit List

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has alleged that President Goodluck Jonthan has earmarked him for killing, while trying to lend weight to the wide allegations made by former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his letter to Jonthan

Governor Ameachi since the break out of the crisis in the Nigerian Governors Forum, which snowballed into the PDP-wide crisis, has mounted a relentless campaign of vituperations against Jonthan. .

According to Amaechi, he is number one on the imaginary list of those penciled down for elimination by President Jonathan.
He made the allegation in the presence of former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu and others.
Amaechi stated this while reacting to President Jonathan’s poser to the letter written by ex President Olusegun Obasanjo to reveal those he accused him of planning to assassinate.

Amaechi said he was amused when he read Jonathan’s letter challenging Obasanjo to mention those on the hit list, saying “I am number one on the list.”

Jonathan Has Done Nothing For South-south –amaechi

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday said that President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also from the South- South region, has done nothing for the region, saying that he has failed to protect the interest of his people, especially Rivers State people.
The governor disclosed this in Port Harcourt during a sensitisation rally by the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Liberation Stadium in the city yestersday.
According to Amaechi, since President Jonathan assumed power, all he has done is to collect the oil wells of the Rivers people and abandoned them without carrying out a serious project in the state.
“Mr. President has collected all our oil wells in the Kalabari area of the state and in Etche, his administration has taken about 41 oil wells, they are saying I have joined APC, yes I have to fight for the future of the Rivers man, let him return all our oil wells if they want me to come back,” he said.
According to the governor, the Federal Government has shown the highest level of impunity in governance, adding that the policy of the supremacy of the rule of law is not operational in the country.
He also added that the Jonathan administration promised Rivers people good water, but he (Jonathan) and his finance minister have claimed that World Bank has refused to release the money meant for the project.
“Rivers people need good water, Jonathan and his minister for finance have refused to sign the money meant for the project, they are lying that there is no money, the Africa Development Bank is ready, the World Bank is ready, the Federal Government is owing the state 52 per cent of our money, they should return our money.”
Also speaking at the rally, former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, said the people of the state should believe and participate in the newly registered APC, adding that the intention of the party is to build a better Nigeria, seeing that the present administration has not acted as expected.
Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who also spoke at the rally, described Governor Amaechi as a “Wonder Boy,” saying that Amaechi is a determined fellow, having taken a bold step to walk out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leaving them in their corruption and that he has proven to them that he controls Rivers State. He promised the lawmakers that had moved from the PDP to the APC that they would never be disappointed and they would never regret joining the party.

Price Of Fuel To Be Reverted Back To #65

If the claims made by the presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati in an interview yesterday are anything to go by, then FRESH AIR is real.
Our correspondent reported that Abati disclosed that the Jonathan led government is putting all hands on deck as to return the current price of petrol back to it's original price.
It would be recalled that on the 1st of January, 2012. President Goodluck Jonathan declared fuel subsidy removal resulting to a labour strike all over the nation.
Let's hope they do this right. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.

Sack Okorocha For Defecting To APC, APGA Tells Court

The All Progressives Grand Alliance on Monday asked
an Abuja Federal High Court to declare the seat of Imo
State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, vacant for defecting
to the All Progressives Congress.

APGA wants the court to make an order directing the
Deputy Governor of Imo State or Speaker of the Imo
State House of Assembly, or any officer next in line to
the position of the Governor, who is a member of the
party, to be inaugurated as the governor of the state.

The party also asked the court to order the Independent
National Electoral Commission to nullify the Certificate
of Return issued to Okorocha, and issue a certificate of
return to his replacement.

Okorocha, INEC and the Imo State House of Assembly
are listed as the 1st to 3rd defendants in the suit,
respectively.

In the suit filed by its counsel, Victor Odjemu, APGA
argued that by virtue of the provisions of section
177(c) and 221 of the 1999 Constitution and section 97
of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and the effect
of the Supreme Court decision in Amaechi v INEC, the
Imo State governorship mandate remains with it.

APGA maintained that the said mandate should be
exercised by the deputy governor of Imo State or the
speaker of the state House of Assembly or any officer
next in line to the Office of the Governor who is a
member of the party by virtue of section 191(1) and (2)
of the 1999 Constitution.

APGA is also asking the court to declare that Okorocha,
who it sponsored in the April 2011 elections, cannot
continue to occupy the office of the governor having
defected from the party that won the election to the
APC, as the mandate was given to the party (APGA) by
the electorate of Imo State and not the APC.

Animals In Aso Rock Zoo Eat More Than Some Nigerians

The Presidency will next year spend N34.5m on two wild animals for the State House Zoo and car trackers for presidential ground fleet as well as utility vehicles.

Out of the sum, N14.5m was set aside in the 2014 budget as the cost of the two animals whose names were not given and N20m for the trackers.

Extra N2m is expected to be expended on two fleet tracking base stations.

These are contained in the details of the Appropriation bill presented by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to the National Assembly last week.

Soyinka, Falana Blast APC For Visiting Babangida, Obasanjo, Others!

Soyinka, Falana Blast APC For Visiting Babangida,
Obasanjo, Others! Says It Is Clear They Only Want
Power
Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, Sunday, lashed out
angrily at the patron-shopping strategy of the
opposition All Progressives Congress, APC,
suggesting that the strategy lacked moral focus,
and had the feel of political prostitution.
In a short email message, the professor of
literature said he was triggered by media reports
indicating that an “APC-led group …has been
paying courtesy visits to former Heads of States,”
prompting him to ask if the party had thought it
through what disaster this would mean for the
nation.
Mr. Soyinka said the media report that stirred him
to respond to the APC had these words: “Tinubu
added that the APC had resolved to rescue
Nigeria, appealing to Obasanjo to lead the
mission. We’re resolved and determined to rescue
Nigeria. We want you as navigator”.
He then asked if the APC was truly comfortable
that this represented its core principles.
“Would it be correct to state that their purpose is
captured in the following Mission Statement?” he
queried, suggesting that an impending political
disaster loomed before the nation, with grave
humanitarian consequence.
“If this attribution is correct, may I urge you, as
an urgent public service, to advise families to
begin the stockpiling of life-belts for the
guaranteed crash.
“Don’t forget to alert the coastguards – Ecowas,
AU, UNO etc etc – to be on the alert for possible
salvage operations.”
Mr. Soyinka then hinted at the moral opportunism
of the patron-shopping strategy by asking: “By
the way, If General Sani Abacha were alive today,
would he also have been on the ship’s
complement? As Captain perhaps?”
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Femi
Falana also has this to say;
“I understand that one of the retired generals is
going to become the chair of the Board of
Trustees of the APC! This is a case of alienation
from the people. How can APC leaders believe
that Nigerians want Generals Obasanjo and
Babangida to be rehabilitated after destroying the
country?
“The duo ruled for 20 years and ruined the
country in the process. General Obasanjo has just
confessed that he has been installing
incompetent leadership since 1979. And he is not
ashamed to make that provocative disclosure.
Has he offered public apology for his maxima
culpa before wooing him?
“The situation is not different in a number of
states and local council areas where the new PDP
is busy taking over all the structures of the APC.
Since the APC is positioning itself to retain the
status quo it cannot become a truly progressive
party.”

10 Worst Quotes Of 2013 By Nigerian Public Figures

Every once in a while, Nigerian public
figures are saying things that become
history, unfortunately, sometimes bad and
shameful history.
Here is the list of the worst 10 quotes of the year
2013 in the descending order.

Rapper Yung6ix having his imagined Kendrick

Maybe then we'll take you seriously.

9) "Any academic staff who fails to resume

This was stated by Nyesom Wike, the Education
minister, in the middle of the lingering ASUU
strike. This caused even more problems and
deepened the crisis. Wike's press conference
during which he was screaming at the
microphone and yelling threats became an
instant visual manual for government officials on
how not to act in public.

8 ) "I was not a tribalist when I had a long-

and presidential spokesman, while he had so
many disastrous statements, he got more than he
bargained for when in defending himself against
tribalism attacks, bizarrely claimed to have had a
sizzling relationship with Bianca Ojukwu, widow of
the late Biafran warlord. He was forced to recant
when she threatened to sue him for every penny.

7) "We have stolen billions of dollars, what
did you do? We steal because you never
stoned us for it."

Governor Rotimi Amechi of Rivers state makes
provocative statements one after after another.
His latest one was dropped at a tribute event for
Nelson Mandela some weeks back, and it was
both an indictment on himself as it was on his
docile followers.

6) "Come, sit on my laps and I will show you
a level of grace you do not understand."

According to Ese Walters, repentant adultress
and misguided victim, senior Pastor Biodun
Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly
must have been using these cringe worthy lines
to score with wide-eyed members of his female
congregation. The most surprising part of this line
is that it actually works. His sweet roll came to an
end when she published a tell all blog post
revealing the pastor's many sexcapades. Pastor
Fatoyinbo is yet to deny Walters' claims. And is
yet to give that robust response.

5) "As the president, I don't know him (Abu
Shekau) and don't know if he is dead or
alive; you journalists will know more than
us. You are the ones who talk to Boko
Haram."

In a presidential media chat, Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan pronounced the words never to be
spoken by a country's chief security officer. In
denying the whereabouts (and maybe existence)
of Abu Shekau, Boko Haram's point man, Mr.
President took the war on terror 10 steps back.

4) "Yes, Patience Jonathan is my Jesus
Christ!"

Now this would be funny if it wasn't so sad. And
true. Evans Bipi of the Rivers state house of
assembly was speaking from the bottom of his
heart when he declared dame Patience Jonathan
(aka mama Peace) his deity as she was
responsible for his political career so far.

3) "I cannot categorically tell you one now…
the one we are going to make use of is
going to be made known by my oga at the
top…"

Mr Obafaiye Shem, former Lagos state
commandant of the National Security and Civil
Defence Corps was asked a simple straight
forward question by the hosts of Channels tv's
daily breakfast show. "What is the website of the
NSCDC?" It became his undoing as he went on a
rambling routine that did not produce the answer
to the question but succeeded in shedding light
on the pathetic state of affairs of our public
institutions.

2) "We do not pray for accidents but it is
inevitable… we do everything to ensure
that we do not have accidents, but it is an
act of God."

Stella Oduah, Aviation minister addressing
journalists 3 days after 16 people lost their lives in
the Associated airlines crash that was ferrying the
remains of Olusegun Agagu, a former aviation
minister. Of course, as it turned out, God had
nothing to do with this particular crash as the
Accident Investigation Bureau revealed that a
malfunctioning engine and a wrong call by the
pilot was most likely the cause.

1) "You are a widow… go and die"

Oh dear! Edo state governor, Comrade Adams
Oshiomhole became this year's face of
insensitivity when he was recorded on video,
yelling at a poor widow displaying her wares
illegally by the roadside to go and die. He later
had tea with his victim and rewarded her
generously but still, that image lingers.

Jonathan's Response Shallow, Disappointing - Northern Elders

The NEF lamented that Jonathan adopted what it called ‘pedestrian approach’ to addressing the core issues raised by Obasanjo and ended up creating more tension in Nigeria than what his predecessor’s letter had generated.

"We feel highly disappointed by the tone and contents of Mr. President’s response to Obasanjo’s letter," Secretary General of the NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, commented on Jonathan's move.

NEF representatives blasted Jonathan for him not taking time to explain to Nigerians whether he had fulfilled the electoral promises he made to the nation and whether in his view, he had made the country better than he met it on assumption of duty.

Moreover, Abdullahi claimed that Jonathan should sum up courage as the current leader to address the germane issues raised in the letter so that the country could move forward.

He noted that the country was going through a complicated period in its political history and that Jonathan should take reasonable steps to arrest the drift rahter than pretend that everything was fine.

Abdullahi also said that it would have been better for Jonathan to keep quiet over the Obasanjo letter than offer a lame reply, which in the main, shies away from the bone of contention.

He stated the following:

"By the response given by Jonathan to the Obasanjo’s letter, the impression seems to be that Jonathan lacks a clear understanding of the major problems facing the country and does not seem to appreciate the innocuous admonition given him by Obasanjo in his letter.

"Our simply and innocuous advice to Mr. President is to use the remaining part of his tenure to find answers to the raging problems facing Nigeria and desist from acting as if all is well with the nation.

"If Mr. President does not know or the people around him have shielded him from knowing, the truth remains that Nigeria is drifting and its citizens in dire need of a leadership that can take them to the next level."

EFCC Arrests Speaker Of Kano House Of Assembly, And 11 Others

The EFCC Monday swooped on the Kano State House of Assembly and detained the Speaker of the House, Alh. Gambo Sallau, alongside principal officers in what the state government has described as a political assault on the state government following the mass defection of the State Governor, Engr. Rabiu Kwakwanso alongside several other key politicians in government positions to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Arrested alongside the Speaker are the Deputy Speaker, Isyaku Ali Danja, the Chief Whip, Deputy Chief Whip, Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Chairman House Committee on Finance and Clerk of the House. A statement by the Government of Kano State said it noted with utter disappointment and surprise, the arrest of the officials.
The statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations to the state governor, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, stated that the public officials were apparently arrested in connection with the budget amendment of 2013 of the State Government, which has already been signed into law by the state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The statement added that the Speaker and his colleagues have only exercised their constitutional responsibilities of ensuring that budgets are properly articulated, to ensure probity and accountability in public expenditure, so that in the end, the citizens enjoy dividends of democracy.

“It is Chrystal clear that the above mentioned public officials were arrested by the EFCC on the orders from the above, because of the legislators’ defection to APC, in support of Governor Kwankwaso,” the government said, adding that “This action is obviously to intimidate and cow them into submission for choosing to move to the progressive fold. This action is not only despicable and absurd but also capable of igniting crisis in the polity, thereby breaching the relative peace that is being enjoyed in Kano state. It is regrettable that the EFCC is allowing itself to be a tool of witch-hunt in the hands of powers that be.”

THEWILL contacted the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwajaren, to seek further information on why the officials were detained and the allegation of witch-hunt, he urged us to email our questions for a formal response.

Ohaneze: Igbo Diaspora Endorse Emma Okocha For President

VANGUARD’S impressionistic writer and author of the Nigerian bestseller-Blood On the Niger, Emma Okocha has formally declared his candidacy for the position of the President General of Ohaneze Ndilgbo.

In a press release, Chicago-based nuclear physicist, Professor Akujieze, disclosed that the Ndiigbo in the Diaspora have decided to pull their resources together to directly impact Igboland. “We looked around and after all our sad experiences dealing with all sorts of people at home and in Nigeria; the Igbos in Diaspora chose an incorruptible soul and an unrepentant Igbo. He is not a businessman.
He is not a rich man but does not bow to money. He has been in government and never gave any contract to his friends or himself.

As the Director Delta Sports he managed to save over 300 million naira for Delta State as he miraculously programmed the First Delta Sports Festival in 1977, under a total budget of three million naira.

For seven years before him the state could not run a sports festival because the commissioners before him were budgeting for the same state sports festival some three hundred and fifty millions. His thrifty and disciplined fiscal management were foreign.

Akujieze called on every Igbo to do their research on the declared candidates. Okocha according to the Ijeoma Ijeawele was a Councilor who was offered a Local Government stall on Nnebisi Road Asaba. He thanked his Local Government Lady Chairman advising her to hand over the stalls to registered traders.

JTF Kill 50 Boko Haram Members

Nigeria’s Joint Action Task Force has killed over 50 Islamists and destroyed more than 20 vehicles during a massive hunt for fleeing Boko Haram insurgents who attacked an army barracks in a restive northeastern town, a spokesman said. Boko Haram gunmen stormed the Mohammed Kur Barracks in Bama early Friday, spraying it with bullets before torching the compound.

“Although a good number of the insurgents escaped with bullet wounds while some have been arrested, over 50 of them died in the course of exchange of fire with ground troops in the ongoing operations to apprehend fleeing terrorists,” Major General Chris Olukolade said in a statement yesterday.

He said the military lost 15 soldiers, mostly from the attack, while some died during the pursuit around the border with Cameroon.

“A total of five civilians also died during the attack,” he said.
Olukolade said the military destroyed over 20 vehicles conveying fleeing Boko Haram fighters.

“The vehicles were the ones used during the attack on the barracks and were sited through air surveillance as the terrorists were making efforts to cross the borders back to their haven in Cameroun,” he said.

He said the military would continue to search for more insurgents who might be on the run.
Several Bama residents told AFP the insurgents abducted several of the soldiers’ wives and children during Friday’s attack. They said the attackers fled to the nearby village of Abbaram, prompting the military to pursue them.
Olukolade said the families affected by the attacks had been relocated to other military locations.

In November, Human Rights Watch reported that Boko Haram has increasingly used kidnappings as a tactic, abducting scores of women and children this year.

The Bama attack was the second major Islamist assault on the army this month, casting further doubt on official claims that the rebels have been weakened by a seven-month-old military offensive in the northeast.

The military offensive, launched when the state of emergency was declared in May, has partly succeeded in driving the Islamists out of major urban centres, but attacks have continued in remote communities.

Boko Haram, declared a terrorist organisation by the United States last month, is fighting to create in Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north. The conflict has killed thousands since 2009.

Nigeria has extended the emergency measures through to May in a bid to permanently crush the insurgency.

Displaced Bakassi Children Seeks Nigeria Fg’s Help[pics]

Worried by their continued shelter in public schools in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, displaced Bakassi children have appealed to the Federal Government to provide them with zinc, cement, nails, rods and other necessary materials to enable them build their own houses.
They made their demands on Monday when Senator Florence Ita-Giwa donated food items and cash to the displaced people, who are taking refuge at St. Mark Primary School, Akwa Ikot Eyo Edem; and Government Secondary School, Akwa Ikot Eyo Edem, in New Bakassi Local Government Area.
The children are among the 4, 000 displaced persons who were chased out of their settlements by Cameroonian Gendarmes in March this year.
The other demands made by the included fishing boats and other fishing materials; provision of buses to ease transportation and take care of emergency situations; employment of Bakassi indigenes in federal establishments, including the military and paramilitary outfits.
In her address, Ita-Giwa urged the displaced persons to continue to be law-abiding, saying steps were being taken to cause the Federal Government to look into their plight.
Ita-Giwa noted that whether the Federal Government liked it or not, it was indebted to the people of Bakassi for being responsible for their plight.
She said, ‘’This country is obliged to resettle Bakassi people. The Green Tree Agreement must be respected. The struggle must be sustained just like the late Nelson Mandela did in South Africa. Nigeria government must resettle Bakassi people because they never went to the International Court of Justice at The Hague, Netherlands. They have been displaced for no fault of theirs.
‘’These people are now living in public schools, which should not be so. In the day the schools are classrooms and night bedrooms. This is bad. They sleep in classrooms that have no doors, no windows exposed to mosquito bites and consequent malaria infection and other diseases.’
